Some Time With Chelsea

Friday, April 30th, 2010

Here are some shots of a little time I got to spend with Chelsea on Saturday. She’s definitely very weak but seems content just to get lots of love and affection and that’s what really matters.

Tonight I am doing the photography for an amazing organization JLW who is having an 80’s themed event. I’m very excited, this is my first charity event. I’m also actually excited to dress up 80’s, haven’t done that since I was 10 ;)

Lessons Learned From Family Session

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

  1. If you are bringing a toy for the kids to play with make sure with the parent it’s a good idea. Let’s just say maybe bubbles weren’t initially ideal but we did end up getting good use out of them.
  2. Don’t rush through the formalities at the beginning. Make sure everything is signed and put away. Because I rushed this the model release forms and they ended up blowing all over the street. My assistant (husband) saved them luckily.
  3. While the 85mm lens is a beautiful portrait lens it’s very tough to use when you are running around outside because you can’t focus with it, you have to move back and forth. *I need a new lens ;)
  4. Not every kid enjoys having a camera pointed at them by a stranger (I have not figured out how to handle this yet).

The Family That Plays Together

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

I’m sifting through all the photos from the family photo session with Melissa’s family on Saturday and it’s both exciting and frustrating trying to cut down pictures. I think I have a natural tendency to look at pictures in more of an artistic way and not as a family portrait. Later on I will share pictures that are more abstract than portrait shots.

My Saturday

Monday, April 26th, 2010

I’m still working through the pictures from my photo shoot on Saturday. While an actual photo shoot can be physically exhausting the editing afterwards can be mentally exhausting. I am so excited about all the pictures though. Here is a little bit of what my day was like on Saturday. First I had the family photo shoot, this shot below of the little girl is too hysterical not to share. You can see more shots on my Facebook Page.

I also spent some time with Chelsea, which was sad but sweet. She can’t move very well and just seems very mellow, which is a word I never would have described her before. She still loves her doggy treats and that in itself is a sign she’s doing ok at the moment. As far as I’m concerned, the moment a dog or cat wants nothing to do with treats is a sign something isn’t ok.
