About Accidental Beauty Photography

I am a child, family, pets, couple and wedding photographer. Photography is a passion for me, I cannot ever imagine not capturing pieces of the world with my camera. More than anything I love bringing out personalities and making them memories.

My E-shoot Lessons

piggback

As always, I learned a lot from my first engagement shoot but then everything in life is a constant state of learning. Here is what I came away with.

  • Double check everything before you leave. Even double check your memory discs, which I didn’t. Not only did I not bring any extra but normally I use a 4GB disc and this time I only had a 1GB so I ran out at one point. Luckily we were in Boston so this was easy to fix.
  • Write down ideas and bring them with you, just in case you get stuck.
  • Dress comfortably.
  • Stay hydrated at all times.
  • If you are using a new lens, test it out at least a week beforehand so you know all it’s tricks.

Good to know! I need to get a 50mm 1.8 lens. Grrrrr.

  • http://accidentalbeauty.net Robin

@Alissa, I was told, by another photog, that the 1.8 isn’t as good quality as the 1.4. Just letting you know.

@Robin, weird. I thought quality had to do with the glass, not the f-stop! I mean, I know 1.4 would make more that desired background bokeh, but would .4 make that big of a difference?

  • http://accidentalbeauty.net Robin

@Alissa, I think it had to do with how the lens is made.

the speed is a bit better with the 1.4 – just due to the nature of the apeture. But…glass is glass isn’t it? maybe that’s just me. I haven’t found it’s worth the difference in price.

i do however, love my 85mm – the colors seem much richer on it for some reason.

man, she looks really strong to carry him like that.. :D very nice shots.. :)
    *IQ-wise, canon’s 1.8 is good enough.. ;)

    Great shots Robin!

Not all glass is the same. The 1.8 is constructed differently than the 1.4. It’s mostly made of plastic and I don’t think the glass is coasted as nicely as the 1.4. It’s still a good lens, but I have heard it is not as durable as the 1.4 which is a metal/plastic construction. The 1.2 L is metal all the way through and the glass is coated with Canon’s top of the line quality, being that it is an L series lens and all.

It’s really all about perspective too. Some people have the 50 1.8 and they swear by it. Others have upgraded from the 1.8 to the 1.4 and say they’d never go back; same with those who have gone from the 1.4 to the 1.2 L.

    @charlane – Do you have the 85mm L lens?

  • http://accidentalbeauty.net Robin

@charlane, I love my 85 but then it’s the only good lens I have right now.

@Jennifer, Thanks Jen, you’re always such a big help.

    These are awesome!!! Very fun!
I’ve heard many say they are satisfied with the 1.8 BUT it’s mostly a cost thing. The 1.4 jumps up a few hundred dollars. And like Jen explained, you get what you pay for.
And you know what? I think I may have heard MORE people swear by their 85! That’s a great lens :)
