The photo shoot was a success! Did everything go perfect? No, but that’s not something I ever expect. Last minute I had to rent a lighting kit and go out to Boston (thanks to my husband who is bringing it back for me today). I had to learn the lighting and figure out how I needed it to work for me. The plan was to start around 7pm and we didn’t start until more like 8:30. I was uneasy at first, not knowing how to direct anyone but after I got into each photo shoot I think it got easier.

Also I didn’t bring enough backup space so I was basically taking more pictures than I had room and I worried about my battery running out, but it didn’t. The shoot went until about midnight and I think I was run down or something because when I got home I had these chills.

But, despite all of that, which isn’t much anyway, it went amazing. I took about 1,000 pictures and at this point after editing I am down to about 700. I learned a lot and pictures are to come. A big thanks from me to everyone who has helped me get as far as I’ve already come.

My next photo shoot goal is to do an outside one, also I would love to shoot a family. Sorry, I can’t help but get a kick out of the word shoot ;)

A Party of Portraits

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

I came up with this idea: throw a party with a bunch of girls, include food, music and drinks and take their portraits. Actually, this sort of this has been done before but I’m not doing this to make money but to learn, totally free. I’m going into this with almost no idea how it will work but I figure since it’s a bunch of my friends it really can’t go wrong.

My sister-in-law is letting me use her place since my place just isn’t suitable for this kind of thing, my place is more meant for outdoor parties. We will setup an entire room basically as the studio with a background, lights and a stool to sit on. I will take turns with each girl and take a variety of pictures.

This is a new venture for me, one I hope I will learn a lot from.
